The first newly named POCN was held in Perth, WA 12-13 May 2016. This network industry meeting was hosted by Shell at Shell House in Wellington Street Perth, WA. The POCN was previously the Hydrocarbons Assessor Network (HAN) which is an industry focussed network where professionals in the gas industry link to learn, share and support quality workforce development. This network is brought together with industry training representatives from a large list of gas-centric organisations such as ConocoPhilips, Origin, QGC, Santos, Shell and their counterparts from training providers in the VET sector.  TAFE Queensland SkillsTech is an industry invited member training provider and is represented by Donna Playford, Business Manager, Educational Delivery.

The two-day meeting covered guest and member presentations, updates on the TAE and PMA training package and lean strategies for reducing costs while maintaining quality training. Matters around the training package rules of the new TAE training package for workplace assessor qualifications of field based assessors were of interest to the group.

There were robust discussions undertaken with regard to training in operations readiness, process safety and frontline barrier management. Verification of Competency (VoC) issues were also deliberated with discussion in this area about the need for mutual recognition and portability of VoC outcomes between sites and contractors.

Todd Busby, Technical Training Advisor at Shell presented to the group progress of the Shell FLNG Project, Prelude. Todd talked about the challenges Shell are identifying when developing a competent workforce for this project.
