Verification of Competency - VOC

Verification of Competency (VoC) is a method of assessment that assists employers to meet OHS requirements and ensure staff are competent to operate equipment or perform a task to the standard expected in employment. New national OHS harmonisation laws, effective January 2012, bring greater importance to employers due diligence and obligation to ensure an individual has “current competency”.

Assessing for Verification of Competency enables businesses to confirm that their employees are competent in their job role skills and use of specific equipment. It is commonly used in many industries for pre-employment checks, contractual arrangements or site requirements.
No longer is holding a ticket or qualification enough for an employer to judge if an individual is current to operate effectively in employment.

Verification of Competency enforcement is new for industry and is subject to interpretation. Working with industry leading clients, TAFE Queensland SkillsTech has developed a formal process that allows for flexibility to meet client needs whilst maintaining a high standard of assessment. Assessors are industry experts holding all relevant qualifications combined with years of experience.

* Assessments can take place on the job or to limit the impact to productivity on-site, at a TAFE Queensland SkillsTech facility. Assessments include theory questions, verbal questioning and visual observational/demonstration one on one.

Participants must provide their trade papers, licenses and/or qualifications as a prerequisite to undertaking a VoC. This, along with relevant work documents and/or logbooks will provide a guide to what level of competence the participant should hold.

* Each assessment takes approximately 4-8 hrs dependent on the occupation or job role and on type of plant and/or requirement of employer/site.
Call one of our friendly team who can assist.
* Client – (individual or employer) will receive an assessment summary that can be used as evidence for currency and can be kept with resume, training records, etc. TAFE Queensland SkillsTech will issue a statement of verification stating the VoC conducted.

What if the person is not competent?  Client – (individual or employer) would be advised of any additional/gap training required before any further assessment could be conducted.
